What is the Common Data Set?

The Common Data Set (CDS) initiative is a collaborative effort among data providers in the higher education community and publishers as represented by the College Board, Peterson’s, and U.S. News & World Report. The combined goal of this collaboration is to improve the quality and accuracy of information provided to all involved in a student’s transition into higher education, as well as to reduce the reporting burden on data providers.

Why might a number in the Common Data Set be different from a number on another Rutgers website?

Different Rutgers reports may use different academic years, populations, definitions, or reporting dates. Always check the year and definitions associated with a statistic before comparing it with another source.

Where can I find previous years of the Common Data Set?

Rutgers affiliates may submit a data request for Common Data Set information from years beyond those publicly available on the website.
